SUMMARY:

Embedded on a transgressive perspective of language education, this research is founded on the principles of Applied Linguistics (Kleiman, 1998; Moita Lopes, 2006, 2013; Rajagopalan, 2005; Pennycook & Makoni, 2020) and critical interculturality (Kramsch, 1998, Mignolo, 2011; Mignolo & Walsh, 2018 Candau,2012;Hua, 2014; Dervin, 2016) as a political-pedagogical project to analyse how questions and argumentation from an enunciative-dialogical perspective impact the development of  intercultural savoirs and practices in  dialogues  between international English-speaking students from two different courses at a university in British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada; namely, Methodologically, we will follow the precepts of qualitative research, as the goal is to understand reality from the shared meanings throughout the classes (Liberali & Liberali, 2011). The research will be interpretative and deductive in nature. We examine interactions over two weeks of class and analyse two semi-structured interviews with the teachers of the focal classes from a critical paradigm, seeking to understand the role of questions in the construction of intercultural savoirs and practices in English language teaching aiming at a language education committed to a decolonial praxis, of belonging, care, and above all, freedom. The analysis categories were created based on Bakhtinian concepts. Results indicate that depending on how questions are organized, they can contribute not only to new possibilities of intercultural dialogues with more empathy and care.
