SUMMARY:

This research investigates how black literature works to (re)elaborate and supplant the trauma of slavery, based on Conceição Evaristo's “Escrevivência” and Roland Walter's “Transescrita”, in the novels Ponciá Vicêncio by Conceição Evaristo (2017) and Maréia by Miriam Alves (2019). Using these theoretical approaches, I analyze orality as a central element in the formation of a creolization of black-Brazilian language (Glissant, 2023). In this regard, I approach Mary Pratt (2002) and Stuart Hall's "copresence" (2023) as a particular characteristic of the Black Diaspora. This concept allows me to (re)interpret the diaspora as a translated space and an agent of this translation. In order to understand how identity tensions converge with each other, (re)constructing and forming new identities and cultures, I investigate how the racial house acts to dominate all bodies, trapping them in its racial shackles (Morrison, 2020). The hypothesis is that by investigating these tensions produced in the limbo of this house, it will be possible to produce routes, crossroads and other paths to overcome its chains, or at least instigate productions that challenge themselves to walk through the dangers of the racial house (Nascimento, 2016; Munanga, 2019). That being said, I examine these narratives positioned towards the Door of No Return (Brand, 2022). The aim is to observe how the Black Diaspora concomitantly creates and (re)creates the feeling of Black (dis)belonging in the Americas (Brah, 2005; Davies, 2003). In order to accomplish this, I search for the rubble of a distant and destroyed black memory, and then rethink how to reshape the racial house using the “metaphor of home” (Morrison, 2020). Therefore, the importance of this research is in how it interprets the “transescrita of escrevivência” as a theoretical concept for black individuals to inscribe themselves in the world, overcoming the trauma of slavery and working towards a better future (Krenak, 1992).
