SUMMARY:
The aim of this project is to analyze The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (originally published in 1985), translated to Portuguese by Ana Deiró (2017), and its homonym adaptation to TV series  created by Bruce Miller (2017), as a feminist dystopia that proposes a revision of the literary canon from the perspective of adaptation theories, as well as analyzing the context of reception in which both  works are conveyed. To validate our propositions, some researches are going to be used: by Ildney Cavalcanti (2003), on the propositions of dystopia; Toril Moi (1988), who reflects with us on the representations of feminisms in literature and the arts; Jenner (2018), who argues on the state of the art of streaming series; Roberto Reis (2000), who proposes reflections on the tensions in the processes of canonization of literary works; Sanders (2006), Claus Cluver (2007) and Saint-Gelais (2011), who elucidate the modes of adaptation; Jauss (1994) and Zilberman (1989), who take us into the analysis of Reception Theory. Existing researches on The Handmaid's Tale (novel and TV series) still need to be amplified, and to do so, we will use a textual analysis methodology assisted by the guidelines of Catherine Belsey (2013), who asserts what we propose here, to bring originality not in the Adamic sense, of the never said, but to bring together all the proposals in a writing, in a way that has not yet been published. Thus, the proposed thesis will be structured in four chapters, through which it unfolds the feminist dystopia, the state of the art of serial adaptation, the processes of canonization of adaptation and its modes, and the participatory reception of the objects analyzed here.
