SUMMARY:

This work aims to analyze the behavior of /S/ in syllabic coda in the speech of bilingual indigenous people of Latundê as L1 and Portuguese as L2, who inhabit the Indigenous Terra Tubarão-Latundê, located in the State of Rondônia. This research is based on the assumptions of Linguistic Contact and Bilingualism (THOMASON, 2001; ROMAINE, 1995; WEINREICH,1953; MATRAS, 2010; HICKEY, 2010, among others), verifying the phenomenon of phonological transfer from one language to another. The choice of theme resulted from the hypothesis that the non-existence of sibilant phonemes in syllabic life in Latundê would interfere with the production of the coda /S/ in Portuguese as a second language. In the analysis, we observed that the behavior of this coda in the available data, considering linguistic and social conditions. The corpus was constituted from recordings made between 1995 and 2016. The analysis was of a qualitative nature, and the phonetic data were submitted to the Praat software, to confirm the hearing perception. As a result of our analysis, in view of the behavior of the sibilant fricative coda, the following phenomena were attested: deletion of /S/ in a syllabic coda, with more frequent occurrence, followed by the realization of the voiceless alveolar fricative [s]. In addition to these phenomena, the realization of voiced alveolar [z], voiceless palatal [ʃ], voiced palate [Ʒ], voiceless glottal [h] and voiced glottal [ɦ] occurred, in addition to these phenomena. rare sounds in the corpus. The phenomena analyzed were confronted with sociolinguistic studies on the phenomenon in portuguese as L1, in order to compare relevant restrictions and assess the role of Latundê interference in indigenous portuguese. In view of the research findings, we consider that the interference is responsible for the deletion of /S/; that the production of the coda as a voiceless alveolar fricative segment [s], alongside its voiced and palatal counterparts, as well as voiced and voiceless florals, although coinciding in some respects, does not largely obey the constraints observed in Portuguese L1. Such behavior also confirms the occurrence of interference of the L1 in the L2, resulting from the linguistic contact experienced by the Latundê people.
