SUMMARY:

Intrafamily violence against woman has been practiced since the beginning. It is the product of a patriarchal culture that, for a long time, kept power in the hands of man, denying woman her rights as a participating and active human being in a society in constant transformation. We recognize that traditional society propagated representations that place the female gender as inferior to the male gender, treating woman as inferior, fragile, delicate, sensible, indolent, etc., while “men are strong, courageous, heroes, violent and never cry” (VIEIRA, 2012 p. 205). These categorizations of inferiority have been crossing generations and significantly contributing to the representation and positions of woman in society, as it is known that she is the target of lots of forms of oppression and that, many times, man, through his power relationship, try to demonstrate his dominance, showing that woman is submissive, and should only do what it is imposed on her. Therefore, we aimed to understand the representation of woman in discourses on intrafamily violence against this subject, published on Facebook news pages, because we believe that this social network provides interaction among interlocutors and it is a conducive digital environment for the maintenance and transformation of power relations, because “the people (individuals), when inserted in discursive and social practices, are the ones who corroborate for the maintenance or transformation of social structures […]”. In the discursive event, norms are modified, questioned or configured, in transformative or reproductive actions (FAIRCLOUGH apud RESENDE and RAMALHO 2006, p. 45-46). We hope, with this study, to reflect on the identicational meaning present in Facebook publications; observe, in these speeches, ideological positions that contribute to the identity representation, as well as to verify if there is support or acceptance of the representation of new identities in the analyzed speeches. For this purpose, a theoretical path will be built based on Critical Discourse Analysis, especially on Norman Fairclough studies.
