SUMMARY:

The discourse of development has been going through meaningful changes since its
emergence in international politics in the 1940s as part of US foreign policy strategy.
The multilateral intergovernmental organizations, particularly the World Bank and the
United Nations, reflect part of the disputes around the concept of development. From
the 1970s, feminist contributions within international organizations are consolidated
through the approach entitled Women in Development, and, from the 1990s, through
the approach known as Gender and Development. The trajectory of incorporating
feminist approaches in the field of international development policy is discussed in this
study, in order to identify the contributions made and the limits faced by transnational
feminist networks in influencing the discourse of development based on their
theoretical reflections and political practices in the institutional arena of international
relations.
