Taxonomy of genus Campylaspis G. O. Sars, 1866 (Cumacea, Nannastacidae) from Sergipe Sub-Basin and Campos Basin
taxonomy; crustacea; new species;
The Campylaspis genus constitutes the most diverse representation within the Nannastacidae family. In the South Atlantic, 29 species have already been identified, while in Brazil, this number reaches 14. The main objective of this study is to conduct an investigation into the vertical distribution and taxonomy of the Campylaspis genus in the Sergipe Sub-Basin and the Campos Basin, Brazil. Specimens were collected through the Descartes (Sergipe) and PMAR-BC (Rio de Janeiro) campaigns. The abiotic data includes geographic coordinates, depth, and sediment type. The collection of specimens was carried out using a box corer, and after collection, they were initially classified at the family level. Then, specimens from the Nannastacidae family were classified at the genus and species levels, and then fixed in 70% alcohol. The faunistic composition checklist presents a total of 29 species, with distribution ranging between 984 and 1060 meters in the Sergipe Sub-Basin, and between 79 and 847 meters in the Campos Basin. By the end of the study, a total of 241 Campylaspis specimens collected at 31 stations in the Sergipe and Campos Basins were analyzed. Among these specimens, 17 were described as belonging to three new species for the genus: Campylaspis bicurvata n. sp., Campylaspis capsa n. sp., and Campylaspis moicana n. sp. Additionally, 20 other specimens were categorized as morphotypes.
