SUMMARY:

The Vulvar Pain Assessment Questionnaire is a specific set of measurement scales available in the literature to capture the biopsychosocial nature of vulvodynia. The objective of this study is to cross-culturally adapt the “Vulvar Pain Assessment Questionnaire” (VPAQ) to the Brazilian population and analyze its internal consistency, reliability (test-retest), error measurement and construct validity. This study will be divided into two parts. Phase 1 will involve the cross-cultural adaptation process and will be divided into six stages: translation, synthesis of translations, back-translation, expert committee, Delphi study and pre-test. Phase 2 will involve the analysis of the measurement properties, which will be carried out in four stages: pilot study, internal consistency, construct validity and test-retest. The test-retest reliability will be evaluated through the intraclass correlation index (ICC) (continuous variables) and the Kappa coefficient (ordinal variables), the construct validity will be verified through the hypothesis test between two groups (women with vulvodynia and women without vulvodynia) and the internal consistency will be analyzed by Rasch analysis. The VPAQ-Brasil will be developed in an appropriate process of cross-cultural adaptation (phase 1), guaranteeing semantic equivalence and cultural adequacy. In phase 2, the study will be applied to women with and without vulvodynia, and the VPAQ-Brasil is expected to have adequate reliability and the ability to differentiate between these two groups (construct validity). It is also expected that the new assessment instrument has good internal consistency, demonstrating an ability to divide participants into skill levels.
