SUMMARY:

The objective of this dissertation is to analyze the potential of agrotourism as an
instrument of development and innovation in Garanhuns-PE. To achieve this purpose, the
application of a single incorporated case study, of an instrumental nature, was adopted as a
methodological strategy. Descriptive analysis and a qualitative approach were used, which uses
the text as an empirical tool to understand the subjects' understanding. Data collection took
place through the application of a semi-structured interview applied to three enterprises that
developed agrotourism actions and two representatives of tourism in the public sector. The
discussion of the results was carried out using the technique of basic qualitative analysis. The
survey results emphasized that companies have developed and consistent pedagogical practices,
leading visitors to learn the production process, culture and history, in addition to enjoying the
landscaping and structure of each rural space. The analyzes showed that the enterprises started
on their own initiative, having the indispensable support of the Federal University of Agreste
de Pernambuco (UFAPE). The research pointed out weaknesses in the disclosure of the
enterprises, these act in isolation, lacking a collective work. The municipality also needs a better
condition of the access roads to these places, as there are times of the year when access is
impassable. Another aspect pointed out is that, although there is a budget for tourism in the
public sector, it only reaches urban tourism, not contemplating agrotourism. As a main
contribution, it is suggested that discussion forums be created for the city sector, with the
purpose of inviting stakeholders involved in this type of business, in addition to creating an
association to boost the development and expansion of this new modality.
