SUMMARY:

In a society immersed in an exhaustive spread of misleading data, being statistically
literate allows citizens to make more assertive decisions, thus developing their critical
sense and their citizenship. It is in Basic Education that these citizens make contact
with Mathematics and learn the basics of Statistics. In this way, it is essential that the
future mathematics teacher has an adequate statistical training to develop this
capacity in Basic Education. However, the degree in mathematics does not prioritize
the development of statistical education, thus preventing the graduate from providing
effective methodologies and techniques for teaching statistics in Basic Education.
This research, with a qualitative approach, sought to understand through
documentary analysis, how the curriculum of these degrees in mathematics is
configured in a perspective of statistical literacy. For this purpose, we selected 22
(twenty-two) undergraduate courses in Mathematics from the state of Pernambuco
and conducted an analysis of the pedagogical documents of these courses. The
methodological trajectory had three stages, the first being a descriptive analysis of
the disciplines of Statistics, the second a content analysis of the PPCs of the
selected courses and the third with a discussion about the convergences and
divergences of these pedagogical documents with the curriculum of undergraduate
degrees in mathematics, statistical education and especially statistical literacy. The
results showed that these courses, despite presenting disciplines focused on the
conceptual teaching of Statistics, have in their PPCs the perception that the critical
development of the student of graduate as a citizen is necessary to form a
professional prepared for contextualized teaching and directed to the development of
statistical literacy of their students. However, this is not reflected in the disciplines of
Statistics, where statistical literacy is passed over despite the connections that
pedagogical documents have with its elements. Despite this, the curriculum of
Degrees in Mathematics is still subject to changes that value the development of the
Statistical Literacy of its future Mathematics teachers.
