SUMMARY:

It can be seen from the analysis of several education authors that the driving force of teaching and learning is the interest of students. Teachers clamored for different tools, thus, didactic games emerged with the task of vindicating these students' interest in education. Bearing this in mind, the model of RPG (Role Playing Games) is built with a comprehensive and confirmatory theoretical basis in the development of concepts and skills required, and sometimes not achieved, by teaching. This research aimed to use an RPG adventure that would serve as a problematization of organic chemical knowledge to achieve its primary objective. Therefore, the RPG adventure was applied, and the understanding of students in higher education about organic chemistry concepts problematized in the game was analyzed from the perspective of “imaginary looping”. So, the imaginary loops were investigated and categorized from the students' speeches, exposed in the RPG adventure. To achieve these objectives, the research was centered on higher education chemistry students at the Centro Acadêmico do Agreste of the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. In the methodological procedures, the RPG Last Chance of Earth was presented schematized without previous tests. In general terms, the game addresses a post-apocalyptic and dystopian scenario, where humanity perishes in the face of a virus that transforms and kills people. In the game, a group of people is taken to a scenario where they have to face challenges in order to find a cure for the virus, which would represent salvation for the Earth, its last chance. Some proposed challenges, in the RPG, address concepts seen in Organic Chemistry classes, such as carboxylic acids and amines. Other challenges deal with conflicts, confrontations characteristic of a game of this type, where luck is decided by the dice. The research was conducted from a qualitative and exploratory approach, we used technical procedures from the Case Study for the development/discovery of data involving the RPG Last Chance of Earth. Then, after the application of the game, the content analysis (in its heuristic function) of the contributions was accomplished, in the imaginative processes, of the contextualization of the chemical concept in RPGs. Because it was possible to observe potential movement curves of the players' imaginary loops, based on dialogues between themselves and the master. Thus, incorporating the universe of didactic tools and validating the use of RPGs as such tools.
