SUMMARY:

This study proposes to investigate how students of a Degree in Chemistry mobilize
knowledge for the elaboration of a remote class on the concept of chemical element
from the mediating and regulating role of the signs being these symbols, icon and
index. We start from the premise that learning is a dynamic process, being mediated
by signs. These are divided into three categories: icons, indexes and symbols. Thus,
we investigated with a group of four students who created a class remotely through
Google Meet. The present research had a methodology of a qualitative nature, in which
we investigated how the participants manipulated certain types of signs, which acted
as inhibitors or promoters in the process of preparing a class. The research went
through four stages of data collection: 1) Video recording of a synchronous intervention
by Google Meet on the concept of chemical element; 2) Proposition of a virtual
environment in GoogleClass assembled by the students who were responsible for
preparing a class on the content of chemical element and the elaboration, by the
participants organized in a group of 4 students, of a class in the virtual environment of
Google Classroom ; 3) Monitoring with video recording of a synchronous intervention,
given by the participants, from Google Meet on the chemical element content and
finally, in step 4) We carried out a semi-structured interview with the participants about
the process of elaborating the synchronous moment that they taught, as well as about
the elaboration of activities in the virtual environment of Google Classroom. In the
analysis, from the TEM (Model of Equifinality and Trajectories) we traced a mini
trajectory of the path of mobilization of meanings, in which we identified the bifurcation
points and the function of the signs in each moment of tension as promoter or inhibitor
in the elaboration process. of the class by the participants. From the analyzed data,
we identified both signs that acted as mediators, as well as regulators for the
construction of the remote classroom, these were used in the construction of meanings
about the chemical element content, the three types of signs classified according to
Pierce, as icon, index and symbol, appeared throughout the class. We emphasize that
the participants more frequently handled signs that acted as mediators, so we
concluded that the present research achieved the objectives outlined, when analyzing
from the point of view of Semiotic Cultural Psychology the process of mobilizing
meanings about the concept of chemical element through the mediation and regulation
of signs for the elaboration of a remote class.
