SUMMARY:

The present work had as general objective to analyze, through horizontal and vertical
mapping, the Brazilian scientific production around the Teaching of Physical Chemistry from
2005 to 2020. scientific. In this way, our work, while it proposes to use the Mapping
methodology in Educational Research, which is used as one of the lines of investigation of
NUPERES (research group linked to the PPGECM of UFPE-CAA) also problematizes the
notion of mapping in research in Teaching of Science and Mathematics. With that, we
decided to apply this investigation in the multipaper format, which is also a common proposal
to the works produced by the group, with a total of three articles. In the first one, we apply a
Horizontal Mapping on Brazilian scientific production that works with bibliographic research
and that use the term mapping for it. Thus, we grouped the concepts into two large groups: the
first one deals with mapping as a stage of a larger research, which they call the state of the art;
and the second that does not follow any specific standardization, that is, it gives the name of
mapping in the sense of inventory, however it investigates specific aspects of the researched
theoretical framework. Sequentially, the second article applies Horizontal Mapping in
Brazilian scientific production from 2005 to 2020 on the Teaching of Physical Chemistry.
Thus, we mapped 389 investigations in the four proposed territories: doctoral theses, master's
dissertations, articles in journals and communications to scientific events. Thus, we found an
increase in the number of publications over the time surveyed, as well as a concentration of
works in the southeast and northeast of the country. In addition, QNESC was the journal with
the most publications and the events with the most investigations were ENPEC and ENEQ.
Finally, in the third article, we apply a vertical mapping to the theses and dissertations
mapped in the second article. With that, we found the variation of the target audience in the
different postgraduate territories, a greater presence of these researches in the Chemical
Equilibrium content, the difficulty of understanding the concepts of Physical-Chemistry.
Meanwhile, we observed that the methodologies applied were varied. Therefore, we conclude
that the Horizontal and Vertical Mappings allow the understanding of both the panorama and
more specific details about a certain investigated topic. However, in the Brazilian scientific
community, the understanding of the term mapping is still dispersed and unclear, which can
lead to confusion in the application of the theme.
