SUMMARY:

Astronomy, like other sciences, aroused, and still arouses, interest, curiosity and the need to understand phenomena that are present in our lives in great civilizations. This interest contributed to making men's lives easier in planting, locating, fishing and various other activities based on the study of the Earth's movements, which allowed the understanding of phenomena such as days and nights, seasons, etc. Therefore, textbooks play an important role in providing students with information about what happens in everyday life, related to these celestial phenomena. In this sense, we analyzed 9 of the 14 collections approved in the PNLD 2019 of Natural Sciences, from the initial years of Elementary School. The objective of this work is to analyze the content of “Earth Movements” in collections of Natural Sciences textbooks from the early years of Elementary School. The methodology used is based on documentary analysis using the collections, observing the activities and images that accompany the content. The results produced here point to an insufficient content approach, the books analyzed have in common the way of approaching the content which is the same, being text and then some exercise to recap what was studied. The explanations of the movements are basically the same in all collections. The language used in the books is easy, accessible and easy to understand. There are images that are good to understand, while there are others that can confuse the student in understanding, such as the shape of the Earth, the representations of the Earth itself and the Sun without the proportions of size and distance, which can generate misunderstandings; and the exercises and activities proposed are insufficient in all collections, as they are simple, similar questions that often do not make the student think about the topic. Thus, given the importance of textbooks in teachers' practice, it is important that they have mastery of the topic to find other tools that can enrich the explanation of this and other content in their classes.
