SUMMARY:

The publication of Law no. 10,639/03, which included the teaching of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture,
Brazilian in Basic Education brought with it a great challenge for Mathematics Education. In view of this obligation, this research addresses the importance of recognizing Afro-Brazilian and indigenous culture in basic education, especially in the teaching of history and Mathematics. Therefore, the objective of this study is to discuss the use of African board games, such as Nigerian Dara, as pedagogical tools for teaching mathematical concepts, aiming to promote a connection between students and African culture. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of teacher training for a more inclusive and sensitive approach to Brazilian cultural diversity. The research seeks to answer the question of how to integrate pedagogical practices that value African and Afro-Brazilian culture in Basic Education, emphasizing the need for an interdisciplinary and playful approach to teaching to promote a more equitable and culturally sensitive education.
