SUMMARY:

This study addresses the frequentist meaning of probability and emerges from concerns regarding the teaching and learning of this topic in Basic Education. Given the highly experimental nature of frequentist probability, we asked about the possibilities of the GeoGebra Suite application for mobile devices as an instrument for learning the frequentist meaning of probability. In this sense, this study aims to identify the contributions and limitations of the GeoGebra Suite application for mobile devices, inserted in a composition of instrumental orchestrations, as an instrument for learning the frequentist meaning of probability. At this juncture, the study is based on the assumptions of the theoretical framework on the epistemology of the concept of probability and its different meanings based on current literature. The data was created through the execution of a composition of instrumental orchestrations with four high school students, designed for a progressive construction of the frequentist meaning of probability, as its other meanings are also mobilized. To this end, the methodological design consisted of three stages. In the first stage, a variation of the horse racing game with two dice was used as a starting point to study the random experiment of rolling two tetrahedral dice and calculating the sum of the results. In the second stage, using the GeoGebra Suite application, computer simulations were carried out to reproduce the data entry and calculate the relative frequencies of each result, as well as the construction of dynamic tables and graphs. In the third stage, the conclusion is drawn about the convergence of relative frequencies to theoretical probabilities. Data analysis was carried out through an interpretative microanalysis, based on microgenetic analysis. Through data analysis, it was revealed that the GeoGebra Suite application became an effective instrument for learning frequentist probability, inserted in a composition of instrumental orchestrations designed for this purpose, featuring elements that facilitated this learning, although it had other elements that limited it.
