SUMMARY:

Limestone calcined clay cement (LC³) has calcined clays, including metakaolin, as one of its raw materials. However, the high calcination temperatures of clays imply in energy expenditure and release of greenhouse gases. In this scenario, natural pozzolans that do not require calcination emerge, including cost reduction, reduction in heat evolution, decreased permeability, as well as increased chemical resistance; also acting as a modifying agent of its properties. This work intends to discuss the incorporation of raw diatomite (#400, 38 m) in LC³ with five different amounts (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) in order to highlight its potential in replacing metakaolin, as well as the understanding of its characteristics and influence.
