SUMMARY:

The increase in life expectancy of the world's population is a reality, and when combined with sharp declines in fertility rates, these advances in life expectancy can lead to a rapid aging of the population worldwide.

Associated with this reality, together with other factors, is the increase in chronic diseases that require care for older people to become a growing challenge for health systems. Health systems must find effective strategies to solve the problems faced by this population, avoiding the loss of their quality of life.

Thanks to advances in the field of health and technology, today it is possible to remotely monitor vital information of the elderly, assist in the control of daily medications or inform about possible accidents that would lead to more serious situations. Technologies such as Ambient Assisted Living - AAL can provide services that deal with solutions to monitor elderly health information, their emotional state and daily activities, allowing them to live independently, safely and healthily. For these solutions to meet the needs of this public, it is important to overcome perceptions of risks, usability, uncertainties related to technology and the context of use. During the development of the system, it is important to guarantee a good specification and analysis of the Non-Functional Requirements (NFR), that is, requirements that define how the system will behave in certain situations and can impact the final objective of the software if not are considered during the analysis and development of the project.

To meet and identify all the needs and functions that will be provided to the users of the system, this thesis presents RS4AAL: Requirement Specification for Ambient Assisted Living, a process that helps the requirements engineer in the specification and analysis of non-functional requirements focusing on the Health and Care in Life subdomain of Ambient Assisted Living, capturing the requirements using techniques such as Storytelling and related to the legal requirements of this domain and in Chung's NFR Framework for analysis of non-functional requirements.

As a methodological instrument to support this thesis, a systematic mapping was used that identified the main non-functional requirements for the subdomain Health and Care in Life, as well as some legal requirements that may impact the development of the system. %In this context, a tool was built to assist in the mapping process and in the use of RS4AAL.

From the results obtained, it was possible to verify that the personal context of the elderly, legal requirements and AAL Guidelines for Ethics, Privacy and Data Security directly affect the specification and analysis of non-functional requirements. From these results, the process defined in RS4AAL to minimize the impacts of these variables and help the requirements engineer the necessary steps to be considered when designing AAL systems.
