SUMMARY:

Optical networks are currently the only technology to support the growing demand for data traffic on the global scene. Much research has been directed at improving transmission efficiency as well as at alternatives for increasing traffic capacity. ACOP (Adaptive Control of Operating Point) techniques are used to make the optical amplifiers in the network adaptive in order to choose the best operating point to maximize important metrics in a network scenario, such as GSNR (Generalized Signal-to-Noise Ratio), throughput, tilt and ripple. The use of bands adjacent to C-band in the electromagnetic spectrum for optical transmission is an alternative to improve transmission capacity without the need to deploy new physical infrastructure. This thesis presents optimization techniques based on bioinspired algorithms and artificial neural networks that seek to apply ACOP techniques in the C, L and S bands of the optical spectrum with the objective of showing itself as an alternative for improving the efficiency of optical networks.
