SUMMARY:

The drop in the birth rate and the increase in the population's life expectancy has caused Brazil to undergo considerable demographic changes in recent decades. With the increase in the elderly population, the prevalence of diseases such as osteoporosis, hypertension and dementia has also increased. Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular ischemia are the two most important causes of dementia. Several studies attest that music therapy can slow down the progress of dementia through musical stimuli and musical education. The patient's interaction with music stimulates the areas of the brain responsible for memory through emotions. However, the affectivity of music therapy is closely related to the recognition and correct stimulation of emotions in the patient by the therapist. Deep artificial neural networks have proven effective in solving complex classification problems. Through the execution of this project, we seek to build a musical brain-machine interface based on deep artificial neural networks and evolutionary algorithms for recognizing emotions in electroencephalographic signals. Through this biofeedback of emotions, it is expected that the solution will be able to investigate the emotions that are aroused when certain songs or even rhythms and musical genres are used as stimuli. This technology can be used to support music therapy, where patients receive musical stimuli but are also encouraged to express themselves musically through singing or manipulating musical instruments.
