Preservation of Digital and Digitised Documents; Institutional Memory; Permanent Archives; National Archives; Digital Preservation.
The purpose of archives and documentation centres is to make available and give access to the information contained in the records produced in the institutional context, but they also have the role of safeguarding the history and memory of the institution. In this context, this research asks what guidelines are laid down by the national archives of Brazil and Portugal for preserving the memory of institutions? The general objective is to analyse the digital preservation strategies emanating from the national archives of Brazil and Portugal in favour of institutional memory. With regard to methodological procedures, the logical basis of this research will be the hypothetical deductive method. This is a descriptive, qualitative and quantitative study, in which the reference theory that will help define and establish the concepts and hypotheses and the approach to analysis is functionalism. In terms of technical procedures, this research is characterised as bibliographical, field and documentary research and its field of research is the National Archives of Brazil and Portugal. Data collection techniques will include a questionnaire applied to archivists and archive technicians at the National Archives. Content analysis will be used to organise and analyse the data collected. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the preservation of institutional memory, both by analysing the strategies that can be employed for this purpose and by comparing the practices of the national archives of Brazil and Portugal in this regard.
