WOMEN IN THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS: INSTITUTIONALIZED DISCRIMINATION UNDER A HISTORICAL (RE)VIEW – A GENDER BIAS
Women; Gender; History of mathematics.
This study focuses on analyzing the institutionalized discrimination faced by women in the history of mathematics from a historical and gender perspective. Given this, the research problem focuses on investigating the social and institutional barriers that have marginalized or underestimated women mathematicians over time. The general objective is to analyze this discrimination, while the specific objectives are: to investigate historical cases of female marginalization in mathematics, to analyze the causes and impacts of gender discrimination in this field and to propose reflections and strategies to promote gender equality and the recognition of contributions of women in mathematics. To achieve these objectives, an integrative literature review will be carried out, searching academic repositories and analyzing studies on the topic in recent years, in addition to comparing them with works by historical mathematical authors. Expected outcomes include a broader understanding of women's contributions to mathematics throughout history, as well as insights into ways to overcome gender discrimination in this field and promote more inclusive and equitable mathematics education.
