This dissertation investigates the implementation of augmented reality as a mediation tool for the technical drawing cognition applied in the scope of scenographic production of conceptual projects -Tailor Made. To this end, the theoretical foundation comprises the themes of Augmented Reality (AR), deepening the state of the art on web-based mobile augmented reality - Web AR; in addition to cognitive factors (human, emotional and spatial abilities), virtual prototyping, and technical design aspects. The research process took place in the light of Design Science Research (DSR) as it sought to develop a solution for a specific class of problems that meet human purposes, as well as to produce knowledge from this process. To achieve the research objectives, DSR considers abductive methods, combined with inductive and deductive methods. The research is outlined in five main stages. The first, conscientization, consists in the definition and formalization of the problem regarding spatial technical communication in the scenographic production line (external environment) tailor made projects. The necessary satisfactory solutions are outlined by the literature review and the analysis of similar artifacts resulting in the definition of requirements and scope, which lead the project, development and evaluation process. Artifact development and verification occur in small interactive cycles, based on agile methods. The study evaluates the dimensions of spatial intelligence (spatial skills) of the participants, before and after the use of the mediation tool in the real work context, and verifies the user's satisfaction with the proposed system, through a subjective questionnaire, based on the traditional model of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), including more specific dimensions interactive technologies, inserting constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The knowledge generated from the entire process can serve as a basis for other researchers to improve, at a comprehensive level - new tools using immersive AR technologies, and at a specific level - tools for the development of spatial skills or mediation for the visualization of technical drawings.

Inserted in the Amazon rainforest Pará is a territory with rich biodiversity and with important participation on mineral area, being today one of the main Brazilian states on producing gold and gems. Inspired by fauna, flora and local culture, jewelry from Pará adds alternative natural material to noble materials from traditional jewelry. However, less information is systematized over the adornments with these materials, specially those with Amazon seeds. Then, this academic research has as its goal to purpose a preliminary mapping of productive chain of seeds adornments, in the context of Belém city, in order to recognize the origin of raw material, fabrication processes, such as the environmental and social impacts associated to the business, looking to support State public policies to maintain this economic activity. The ued method was designed from the handicraft productive chain analysis model, developed by O Imaginario laboratory from UFPE, to collect information from the agents inside the raw material identification, productive processes and marketing access protocols. The research tools applied were: technical visit, photographic records of production places, ~marketing and promotion of seeds adornments, besides structured interviews with designers, with the manager and a salesperson from Espaço São José Liberto – PA and an engineer from EMBRAPA. The result of the research pointed that the right treatment of the seeds can add value to the raw material to the level of organic jewelry and some fragilities of productive chain are on the initial steps, specially on collecting and beneficiation of seeds, creating a dependency of producers/designers to the middleman. Nevertheless, since 2009, there is on this area a systematic process of Amazon seeds beneficiation purposed by EMBRAPA, that should broadly spread to local products. It declares the need of public policies to integrate scientific research actions to raw material certification processes to consumer market of jewelry sector of Pará looking for the sustainability of business.

As many authors have already noted, studies for the development of sustainability have an exacerbated focus on the environmental pillar of the sustainability tripod and are mostly focused on the context of traditional industry, thus the other pillars are sometimes neglected, the that favors the development of products with the use of greenwashing, which seek to obtain favorable marketing for brands in search of profit. As a result, few studies focus on unraveling the difficulties encountered by people in the process of seeking a dignified and sustainable life. This thesis seeks to investigate the 3D printing process as a facilitator for entrepreneurs to enter the increasingly democratic and decentralized market, whose objective is to acquire income and work with what they like, while promoting the search for knowledge and repositioning people within of society.

In Brazil, the number of disabled people exceeds 45 million, more than 20% of the population. Among them, 10 million people have a problem related to deafness. For most of these people, the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) is the first and often the only language learned. In this context, written language is one of the most difficult barriers to web accessibility for this audience. Most web interfaces have been developed empirically, often without the knowledge or effective participation of the deaf user. Although some studies indicate alternatives, they are superficial and incipient recommendations from the point of view of evaluating experience. This thesis explored basic issues of interface design, with emphasis on the labeling component of information architecture, seeking to understand which resources provide a satisfactory and emotionally positive experience for the deaf person. For this, the elements that make up the user experience and how the labels of an interface are constructed were discussed. A mapping of recommendations and web design studies focused on the deaf person was carried out in order to elaborate different proposals for labeling systems. These proposals were evaluated by 40 deaf people from different profiles and regions of Brazil, using a bilingual form (Libras-Portuguese). The results showed that deaf people with different knowledge of the written language have different satisfactions and emotions for the same proposal. However, the importance of the visual resource is a common positive point for all deaf people, regardless of profile. This research used the inductive approach method and methods of bibliographic and comparative procedure.

Despite the cycle delivery activity not being new, since the bicycle is a means of transport used since the 19th century, the number of people on the streets of Brazilian cities performing this function has increased exponentially in the last two years, a situation that was configured during the serious period of the covid-19 disease pandemic, resulting in a scenario of fragility: unemployment and/or precarious working conditions. In this scenario of accelerated transformations driven by technology, one sees the legislation (including the Regulatory Norms) trying to achieve such changes at a slow pace. Meanwhile, people are exposed to work precariousness, including psychosocial and physical risks of outside activity. In front of the station, one sees in this context a possibility of contribution of Design and Ergonomics to improve the physical and psychological comfort of these workers. Considering the uniform as a work tool that stands between its user, its activity and the environment where it is carried out, the present investigation focused on the following question: to what extent do uniforms affect the feeling of satisfaction / well-being of the cycle delivery man? With a material cut, turning to the fabric used in this wearable artifact, the uniform of the Empresa Nacional de Correios e Telégrafos (ECT) was used as a research object, considering the postal delivery cycle (the postman) of the city of Recife - PE as your user. This institution was chosen due to its great symbolic value, as it is a traditional company in the country, operating at a national level. In addition, it has, in its body of postal workers, those who work using the bicycle as a tool for locomotion and delivery of orders. With the aim of proposing recommendations for improvements to professional clothing in outdoor environments in order to promote comfort and well-being to ECT postal couriers in the city of Recife - PE, this research outlined a hybrid methodological path, divided into four phases that use tools from ergonomics, usability and experimental psychology. In the first one, the macro system of the postal delivery cycle was characterized; in the second, an understanding of the usability of the uniform was sought; in the third; there was an affective evaluation of the delivery cycle during the activity; and, in the fourth, the data obtained in the previous phases was crossed, culminating in the proposition of recommendations for the design / selection of uniform for external environments of the ECT. Through the SHTM method, natural, physical, environmental, actional, movement, operational and biological ergonomic problems were identified; the hierarchical ordering of the system; its goals, constraints and results. Based on the OIKOS methodology, the usability of the uniform was investigated, characterizing the textile material in terms of its mechanical nature and tracing the profile of its user. Using the PANAS self-report tools and a biofeedback device, the user's affective experience regarding their activity was evaluated. It was concluded that, despite possible points of improvement and intervention regarding the material of the uniform, this is not the main problem in the system in the perception of its users, who highlighted footwear as the most problematic component. Through the affective evaluation tools, it was noted that the participants manifested more emotions of positive than negative valence throughout the activity, which contributes to job satisfaction and the feeling of self-fulfillment, touching on hedonic and eudaimonic factors. However, it is important to look at the ergonomic and practical usability factors, which proved to be subject to intervention and/or changes, especially in the lower part of the uniform, such as weight, finishing, elasticity and resistance to biological, natural and physical agents.

While that society evolves, new narratives emerge that affect the spheres of human behavior, especially when it comes to women, directly affected in all stages of the life, who are assigned certain social codes that interfere in the way they should act, dress, and being, and in turn, make it exclusionary in social participation. Especially in the stage of aging, it is by creating a kind of collective materialization of this phase, that the image that can be socially active both physical and digital fields is nullified and dissociated. This research sought to analyze the narratives around maturity, technology and fashion in the context of fast fashion consumption, relating both to increased life expectancy and access to information, as well as to discussions about gerontecnology and society 5.0, an approach to the theme in its entirety. The objective interprets the narratives of consumption between the fast fashion online fashion market and mature women, through the transition phase of behavior in contemporary society. To this end, qualitative research was conducted, with a deductive hypothetical approach method, through a semi-structured questionnaire applied to 42 mature women. The study analyzed the dynamics and concerns in the digital process of buying fashion artifacts, correlating it with self-image and emerging psychological relationships, amid the gradual rupture of women with the barriers of etarism. Thus, this research makes it possible to identify - whether the relationship between the triad of fashion, technology and the reconstruction of the "I" within the new world perspectives is established.

Out of 1.9 billion games purchased on one of the biggest game sales platforms in the world, Steam, 30% are independent (or indie) games. Not to mention the massive availability of these games for free on the same platform. However, the risks during development found in games with large investments (the AAA) are the same for independent studios, whose structure, team, and budget are reduced. This research focuses on investigating which strategic playtest measures are configured in the reality of an independent developer (indie), reviewing the most recent conceptions and perspectives of specialists, verifying the existing methods. Therefore, the research will evaluate the performance between the perception of local studios and the literature, verifying the best suitability for playtesting in independent games.

This exploratory research, of the case study type, aimed to identify heterotopic aspects present in two spaces, "The Smallest House in Olinda" and the "Lesbian Bar," both built by the artist from Pernambuco, Fernando Peres, who since the 1990s has been developing artistic practices that significantly delve into the construction of autonomous spaces, which flow simultaneously with a broad work that mixes developments of artist books, photographs, video production, performance, and tireless drawing practice that writes many aspects of his experiences. To do so, a bibliographic review of the term proposed by Foucault was carried out here, as well as a lecture given in Tunisia in 1967, published only in 1984, where he states that the twentieth century is the century of space, the era of the simultaneous, of juxtaposition, of the near and the far, of the side by side and the dispersed. Therefore, Foucault asserts that we are in a moment in which the world is experienced much more as a network that reconnects points and intersects its plot in space than as a great road that develops over time. In addition to these reflections, to constitute this review, I also used research produced by critics, researchers, and curators in the field of art who dialogue with the term proposed by the French philosopher, such as the works of Bourriaud (2006) and Reinaldo (2006). In the last part of this work, I developed a documentary survey that served as a starting point for initiating the analyzes that attest to the latent presence of heterotopic characteristics present in the spaces built by this artist.

Using a qualitative-experimental approach, this research aims to approach a post-structuralist discursive perspective in the field of design. In this sense, the Power Rangers series is used as an interface object between Michel Foucault's concept of discourse, Judith Butler's notion of performativity, and information design practices. To develop this interlocution, the concept of technochoreographed image is used, selecting passages from live-action series framed in this category. Specifically, a frame from the 21st season (Power Rangers Super Megaforce, 2014) is analyzed through a critical analysis of normatively structured information using a (re)elaborative practice of categories assigned to character design (color, position, body, pose, and costume). Then, an analysis of discursive productions of visual and/or verbal results is produced, based on Foucault's perception that historical-social-philosophical excursions are necessary in relation to the studied object in order to understand a certain statement considered moral, correct, and given, or, in other words, what is established as normal. The analysis suggests that Power Rangers still disseminates hegemonic discourses about gender relations, including binarities, 'phallic-military' leadership, femininity stereotypes, heterosexual compulsion, current bodily ideals, ableist notions, transphobia, and regulations about childhood. Finally, it is indicated that, despite the need for adjustments and new applications, the method of critical analysis of information through performative subversions ((re)elaborations) proved to be a reflexive act in itself. It is also pointed out that a discursive approach in information design is not only practicable but necessary since it can tension and denaturalize legitimized forms of knowledge-power in the field (theories, objects, methods, anomalies, exclusions, etc.), that is, it provides a point of escape from a linguistic and rationalist treatment of informational products.

The research presented had the general objective of evaluating the perception of residents about the use of color on the facades of popular houses, emphasizing the importance for the area of design and ergonomics of the built environment, by identifying color arrangements that can improve the perceived visual quality. . The field research had as object of study the color on the facades of popular houses in the Alto Nossa Senhora de Fátima community, in the Vasco da Gama neighborhood, in Recife, Pernambuco. This location was part of the Mais Vida nos Morros Program, whose Residents' Association authorized the research to be carried out in the location, in addition to the community leader being willing to accompany the present researcher in approaches to the residents, thus avoiding displacements to various communities without the knowledge and facilities necessary for the interviews. For this purpose, the methodology used included documentary research and bibliographical research, in addition to Field Research. The results obtained, namely: green, representing hope and white, easy maintenance and low cost in the use of lime, are the predominant colors in the two researched groups; the meanings transmitted by the colors, according to the interviewees, have a wide repertoire, but are common within the same community; the impossibility of relating sociodemographic variables with the color preference determined; and, consequently, that the hearing of the residents of the popular houses shows that there is a predisposition of the interviewees, regardless of having acquired the paints for painting the facades at their own expense or not, in daring with the colors when choosing the most varied hues, that bring meanings from the experience of each one, from the stored memories, which make each research participant perceive the environment in their own way. Finally, it is expected that this work can guide decisions for programs about color on the facades of popular houses, as well as for the design of this type of housing, as it takes into account the opinion of residents, thus being able to favor the chromatic quality perceived in these urban spaces.

The present investigation discusses the theme of accessibility, an aspect that aims to promote access and the condition of reach, perception and understanding for the use, on equal opportunities, safely and allowing an individual to participate in life in society with autonomy and independence. More specifically, it addresses the cognitive accessibility recommendations from the Game Accessibility Guidelines, accessibility guidelines aimed at playful artifacts, with emphasis on Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), present in card party games, card games with simple rules, short duration and that allow ample social interaction. Such a premise opens the way for the research question: how do the components present in card party games impact the cognition of individuals within the ASD, generating interest in such games? After establishing the general objective of proposing a systematic set of contributions for components of card party games based on the cognitive accessibility recommendations of the Game Accessibility Guidelines, stimulating the interest of players within the autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a survey was carried out. bibliography, in order to found the theoretical basis. Through the Method of Comparative Procedure, it was possible to confront, through triangulations, the cognitive Game Accessibility Guidelines and the four axes of the Elementary Tetrad of Schell's Games, a classification that allows to subdivide the games in mechanics, narrative, aesthetics, and technology, in the different card party games, resulting in results that demonstrate the degree of accessibility in each artifact. Finally, guidelines were proposed for adaptations of playful artifacts, raising reflections on making inclusive design decisions, culminating in the development of more accessible card party games, aimed at players with cognitive, neural, or learning disabilities, especially ASD.

Whether they are relics or souvenirs, handcrafted or industrial, artistic or utilitarian, the preserved items that carry the image of Padre Cícero can play important roles, both in the processes of constituting the culture and identity of a people, and in maintaining the memory of the priest. The research aims to investigate the symbolic representations of a group of contemporary artifacts and analyze their dimensions and functions, generating interpretative syntheses that facilitate the understanding of the different contexts in which they are inserted and how they are related to the social life of individuals. This dissertation is divided into two parts: the theoretical basis and the research itself. The first consists on literature based on the three elements under investigation: Brief history of Padre Cícero, symbolic power and semiotic. The second part describes the research process, including the exploratory study and the results, which point out that the expressive profusion of Padim's image, allows the language of investigated artifacts to provide diverse interactions and interpretations in their receivers, whether faithful or not.

In this work we analyze posts shared by the institutional profile of a public university on Instagram. We seek to build a methodological framework that allows considering linguistic and rhetorical aspects that involve the relationship between the two forms of verbal and pictorial graphic language, identifying how they converge in the construction of meaning, syntactic consequences of these relationships, as well as the presence of rhetorical arguments in institutional communication on the social network. For this purpose, the terminologies proposed by Twyman (1979) for graphic language were used; the analysis methodologies of Evelyn Goldsmith (1980) and Jeremy Mulvey (1987); in addition to considering the presence of rhetorical arguments identified through Aristotelian appeals (ethos, pathos and logos). Finally, we consider that this theoretical body was sufficient to propose a basis that would discuss linguistic aspects of institutional posts, in addition to allowing the identification of persuasive arguments of the content composition.

The elderly population is growing and, with that, there is a concern with the necessary conditions to assist individuals in this age group. Many elderly people live in Long Stay Institutions (ILPIs) which, with the rapid expansion of the urban perimeter, are increasingly being incorporated by urban centers. Built environments play an important role in the user's quality of life, as well as enabling greater social and emotional interaction for the individual. Thus, with the recognition of the needs of the elderly, it is necessary to establish design guidelines that promote better living conditions in society and offer adequate environments to help promote social interaction. The initial hypothesis arises from the precept that issues of privacy, security and identity favor this social interaction of the elderly. These questions were associated with environmental aspects to assess the influence of the built environment on the social interaction of institutionalized elderly. For this, two ILPIs were used as objects of study. One of the institutions is located in the center of Parque 18 de Maio, where the Caruaru fair is located and the other, isolated from the urban perimeter of the city of Bezerros in the Encruzilhada de São João neighborhood. The study adopted the Theory of Facets (TF) to structure the empirical investigation of the research. As an instrument for data collection, the Multiple Classification System (SCM) was used, using photographs of the internal and external environments of ILPIs with different environmental variables, and semi-structured interviews with the elderly to collect the effects of environmental factors for the promotion of social interaction. In all, 38 institutionalized elderly were interviewed. The data obtained from the SCM were analyzed by the multidimensional scaling technique called Analysis of the Structure of Similarity (Smilarity Structure Analysis - SSA). It was observed that the environmental attributes that most influence the stimulus that promotes social interaction in institutionalized elderly people are those of identity and privacy. Based on this, we sought to develop design recommendations for environments that favor social interaction in long-stay institutions. Thus, when better living conditions are provided to the environment, making it more attractive to users, permanence is stimulated in the individual and positively impacts social interaction between users.

This work presents a case study carried out in a state school in Fortaleza, Ceará. The study design was based on an ethnographic approach, through non-participatory observation in the classroom, semi-structured interviews with teachers and analysis of textbooks approved by the 2021 National Textbook Program (PNLD), distributed to schools in 2022. The analysis, carried out with the Writing and Portuguese Language teachers, was oriented to the object of study of the research, the literary chronicle genre. Among other aspects, the absence of writing exercises and encouragement for teachers to produce support material for the content of the books was observed. Thus, the experiment built by the researcher and teachers aimed to develop a mediating artifact for the practice of writing literary chronicles, the Panel of Stories. The artifact had the participation of first and second year students, through the application of questionnaires. The experiment was guided by the conceptions of participatory design aimed at education, by the principles of Freire's pedagogy, with notions of cooperation, student protagonism, playfulness and orality. Through the theoretical-methodological framework of the Activity Theory, it was based on Leontiev's activity levels and on the Engeström diagram as analytical tools. Through them, it was possible to verify the relationship between the subjects and the tool through stimuli applied as social rules, in addition to possible improvements through critical notes at operational levels. The project culminated in the compilation of texts written by the students, which resulted in the school's literary chronicle book project. It is being applied again at school in 2023, autonomously by teachers. The artifact proved to be not only a resource to support the content of textbooks, but also a resource in itself, with potential for use in other schools in the state, including other text genres.

This research addresses Wearable Art in Brazil, according to international and national definitions, with the obective of historical acknowledgement and, at the same time, revealing this segment contemplating Brazilian miscegenation. Wearable art began almost as a retroactive process to the industry, with productions of more artisanal and individual characteristics, which indicated more authentic ways of representation, where the relationship between individual and society was antagonistic to industrialization. In observing these phenomena, new ideas and arguments were included, such as Alfred Gell's (1945-1997) theories on "art and agency" and Nicolas Bourriaud's (b.1965) theories on "relational aesthetics". We separate three observation groups, which are correlated, they are: wearable art agency; relational wearable art; and wearable art effects. In these, twenty possibilities of wearable art are addressed, by artists, artisans, makers and communities. Among them, not all are considered art, as studies on wearable art are still scarce, this research proposes to discuss and bring up new issues, as well as an update on the past, from a contemporary perspective, thus adding wearable objects as art. Questions about whether or not they are objects of art are evidenced by the fact that the examples arise from people who normally act against oppose the oppressors, known as marginalized or excluded, with characteristics of being challenging, creative and for thinking outside the box. Faced with Gell's ideas about art objects having life, we observe the life of wearable art objects, point out ways for new research and welcome the most diverse means to expand the definition and segmentation of wearable art in Brazil.

Previous research indicates that most Local Production Arrangements (APLs), including the Pernambuco Confections APL, have limited knowledge about tools, methodologies and quality programs in their production processes, where the shirting segment is located. It is assumed, then, that studies in the field of wearability have the potential to collaborate with the qualification of fashion clothing products, given the interaction between the configuration of the clothing and the characteristics of the users, allowing the inspection of metrics and the evaluation of components – effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. In fact, this research sought to answer “What are the wearability statistics for men's shirts and how can these be evaluated in user tests during the prototyping of the garment?”. The results obtained made it possible to identify wearability statistics, highlighting the aesthetic function (effectiveness), the performance of the garment during the execution of upper body movements (efficiency) and thermal and physical comfort (satisfaction) during use. This is particularly relevant, as all detailed analyzes can be evaluated during wearability tests in a real context of use, or make it possible to verify the performance of the shirt, in addition to user satisfaction. Thus, the importance of the study for the area of design and ergonomics in clothing is highlighted, by inserting systematized procedures for evaluating wearability in the design activity and its implications for the quality of the product to meet the needs of the public consumer.

Underwear is worn in direct contact with the skin and, when poorly designed, can cause negative interactions with the body structure and dissatisfaction for users, as well as interfering with the performance of daily activities. It is therefore important to study the ergonomics of underwear. Therefore, the aim of this research was to propose tools for assessing the wearability of women's underwear (bras and panties), which can be used in the prototyping phase, in order to contribute to the quality, comfort and safety of these artifacts. It should be noted that few studies were found on the configuration of clothing produced in the Agreste de Pernambuco Apparel LPA. There is a gap in research, both in terms of the experience of wearing underwear and in understanding how the fashion design process takes place - from creation to manufacture. The theoretical and methodological contribution to wearability made it possible to analyze the interaction between the configurative elements of the garment, the characteristics of the users and the context of use, in order to identify metrics for evaluating the performance of the garment and the satisfaction of the users. Methodologically, this is a predominantly empirical study with a hypothetical deductive approach whose main phases are: 1) a survey of underwear producers in the Pernambuco APL; 2) identification of metrics based on previous reports of use by a relevant sample of bra and panty consumers; 3) evaluation of the identified metrics to propose a tool that corroborates the evaluation of the wearability of bras and panties in the prototyping phase. Thus, effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction metrics for the wearability of bras and panties were identified and evaluated in wearability tests, in a real work context. The results of the subjective evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency metrics made it possible to identify the performance of each of the bras and panties analyzed. The satisfaction metrics made it possible to identify the configurational elements of the bras and panties associated with discomfort and positive attitudes. Based on the identification of the metrics and the results of the wearability tests, tools were proposed, consisting of Checklists for evaluating bras and panties in the prototyping phase in the industry. The Checklists were tested with one of the participating companies, proving to be effective and efficient for understanding problems in the interaction between the body and underwear, as well as identifying positive attributes, favoring more efficient and precise design solutions, providing the best fit and comfort.

The Brazilian region of the Agreste Pernambucano has had a strong relationship with the production of jeans since the 1980s. For the people of the Agreste, this garment represents much more than clothing; it has been a symbol of opportunity, job creation, and income generation. However, despite being the most consumed apparel in popular markets, particularly among women, discomfort during use is still widely mentioned. However, despite previous research in the Agreste Clothing LPA (Local Productive Arrangement) regarding the design and production process of jeans having studied the produced clothes focusing on an perspective of ergonomics, there are no reports of a practical application. Thus, this study aims to investigate the wearability of women's jeans produced in the Agreste Clothing LPA of Pernambuco, Brazil, in order to propose evaluation guidelines for the qualification of this segment. This research is hypothetical-deductive and predominantly empirical, with methodological steps divided into four main phases: 1) survey of jeans brands/companies in the LPA to understand current production processes and selection of three qualitatively representative brands for the study; 2) interviews with producers from the selected companies; 3) interviews with users of jeans that was produced by participating companies, to identify metrics of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction of this product; 4) wearability assessment using thermography. Based on the results from phase 4, wearability assessments were conducted in a real-use context. Using the findings, guidelines for evaluating the wearability of women's jeans produced in the LPA were developed, which can be applied during the design phase and assessed during prototyping to make necessary adjustments before large-scale production, within the scope of what is understood as Design Ergonomics. The intention is to share these results with the companies and offer training for the application of wearability guidelines in the development of new models, with the goal of positively impacting the quality of these pieces.

The June festivities are recognized as an important vehicle for communicating collective memory. The objects, images, sounds, smells and flavors that make up the entire universe of this celebratory practice play a fundamental role in people's memories and in sharing the traditions and identities of groups; transforming into symbols representing the party. It proves to be an excellent field of research for studies of sensorial design. Considering that the acquisition and transmission of information, which constitutes our entire repertoire, are not restricted to just visual perception, but multisensory perception. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to create subsidies for the field of celebration design with a focus on promoting significant sensory information in the context of the June festivals, in Campina Grande- PB. It was based on themes of collective memory by Halbwachs (1990), and invented traditions by Hobsbawn (1984). Being conducted, from the perspective of the field of emotional design by Norman (2008). The entire methodological path was guided through participatory observation. Through on-site observation, tracking perceived sensory stimuli and simultaneously applying questionnaires, searching for participants' memories of the June celebration; These speeches were interpreted and organized according to Damazio's thesis (2005), and the studies of Csikszentmihalyi and Rochberg-Halton (1981), in search of commemoration artifacts.

The biophilic patterns in the built environment represent an essential tool for exploring the connections between nature, human biology, and environmental design. Their application in both indoor and outdoor spaces has demonstrated the ability to reduce stress, improve well-being, enhance creativity, and clarity of thought for users. These patterns have been the subject of study and research by scientists, researchers, designers, and architects who, over decades, have sought to identify the most impactful natural elements in user satisfaction in built environments. Furthermore, social, cultural, and economic factors have contributed to the growing adoption of biophilic designs, which can be considered an important tool for creating a restorative environment through UX design. This qualitative and quantitative study, classified as exploratory empirical research, aimed to understand the applicability of these standards in social housing. It included interviews, data collection, and technical analysis. The objective was to comprehend the applicability of biophilic patterns in the built environment, as well as their implications. Furthermore, the research provides specific guidelines as a result for the implementation of these patterns in social housing, centered in Imburi I, II, and III complexes in the Mangabeira settlement in the municipality of Pilar, Alagoas. This includes the proposal of a layout model based on user needs obtained through interviews and observation.

This research aims to discuss the concept of Urban Graphic Memory, using as a starting point decorative elements present in the architectural constructions of some neighborhoods in the city of Recife. A gradual process of degradation of the city's heritage is slowly taking place, taking with it graphic and visual elements of its architecture, exemplified in this investigation by the artifacts studied: cobogós, hydraulic tiles, tiles and railings. In order to record their presence in certain places in the city, an affective mapping was carried out through drifting walks and photographic records. The itinerary was defined based on the results of a Focus Group with participants involved in architecture, urban landscapes and their preservation. Discussions were also raised about the surface and use of ornament and its transformations from being produced in small workshops by artisans to being made in industrial warehouses. Also investigated was the relationship between graphic memory and design and the result of a Systematic Literature Review with the aim of surveying the concepts of graphic memory and the authors and works that dialog with elements present in the urban landscape.

Raw materials are fundamental for the manufacture of artifacts. However, the growing demand to extract finite natural resources contributes significantly to environmental degradation. On the other hand, among the most used vegetable fibers, those of Agave sisalana are an extremely valuable alternative for presenting excellent mechanical and environmental properties. The use of natural materials has been gaining ground for decades, such as the use of agave and other bio-based materials in the manufacture of sustainable surfboards. The agave is an object of study in this investigation, thus, we seek to understand why this natural system is light and resistant, what are the biological strategies of lightness and resistance of the structure of cell walls. A bioinspired approach is believed to be one that favors eco-performance research and metrics over creating bioinspired shapes and materials. The investigation is guided by the Biomimicry Thinking methodological approach of the Instituto de Biomimetica 3.8, having the Principles of Life as sustainable design guidelines. Through analogy and transfer-of-function methods, biological strategies are emulated into design principles aided by parametric modeling processes. In particular, this proposal aims at the development of algorithms to generate light and resistant objects with their inner cores composed of voronoi diagrams, through the use of computational strategies to create bioinspired structures in a generic concept of lightness and resistance. Two more codes were also developed with the same approach and application in the development of surfboards and fins, which included an evolutionary algorithm for selecting optimized pattern options and another parameter for verifying the integrity of artifact structures. In this way, bioinspiration was worked on in the lightness and resistance of agave with biological research, parametric modeling processes and digital fabrication for the generation of prototypes and study models. In this way, it was possible to carry out emulations of agave strategies in terms of experimentation with structures and materials. It also explores the potential application of fibers with the development of composites with biologically-based matrices, with verification of mechanical properties in flexion and tensile tests.

Emerging in the post-industrial scenario is self-production, a productive system in which the designer - developing authorial work and according to his own strategy - is responsible for managing the design process in its entirety: the conception, production, distribution and communication of your products. The phenomenon is little studied from the perspective of Brazilian authorial design, with the vast majority being the result of European research. We sought to understand this activity in the production of contemporary Brazilian furniture using the single case study, which recorded the strategies and adaptations of a young design studio to remain active, despite the socioeconomic impacts generated by a pandemic and other administrative factors. federal. Through analysis of documents, artifacts, digital presence and interviews with the responsible designers, it was possible to understand the motivations to undertake through authorial design, as well as the symbolic relationship of the repertoire of northeastern designers who highlight playful childhood memories and use references regional in the formal configuration of his pieces. However, factors such as prolonged social isolation, inflation that affected the cost of inputs, as well as the high price of transporting cargo to other regions of a country of continental proportions, were decisive for the temporary closure of selfproduction activities since 2020. Until the local production conditions improved, they opted for the licensing system for their authorial products, relying on the structure of larger companies for the production, distribution and part of the communication processes. The experience of this production model is being modified every day to ensure greater control over the expected quality in the design process, and has proved to be an important alternative for the survival of micro enterprises. Estudio Galho managed to maintain, given the production conditions possible at the time, the language it began to build in its initial self-production process: the reference of local culture.

The Italian-Brazilian architect and designer Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) is recognized as one of the most important professionals in her fields of activity in Brazil, where she would naturalize in 1951 and live until the end of her days. Upon her arrival in the country in 1946, Lina began the process of what would be a deep dive into Brazilian cultural and popular roots, which, at the end of her life, she believed would be the source for building a true autochthonous identity. For Lina, the artifacts produced by Brazilians who solved problems in a barbaric everyday life – a term she used to refer to the conditions of those who suffered from a lack of resources and the neglect of public authorities, led to what she called an impasse of the design: the country should move from what she saw as a pre-craftsmanship to a design with national characteristics. Simplicity, in her work, emerged as a written discourse, still in the Italian phase, and then passed into design discourse, over the years, when it was conceptually transformed, a process reinforced by personal and professional experiences, which led her to (re) know the simplicity of popular artifacts. Therefore, this thesis aims to analyze the expressions and transformations of the notion of simplicity, between the years 1946 and 1992, in Lina Bo Bardi's written production, design and cultural actions in Brazil. The research, of a qualitative nature and which conforms to a single case study, is based on the evidence and data obtained in the investigation carried out in the dissertation Lina Bo Bardi, architetto e designer: um estudo de caso sobre a fase italiana (1939-1946), prepared by the same author of the thesis, was based on theorists of Philosophy to define what Simplicity is, in the literature that deals with the history of Brazilian Architecture and Design, a period contemporary to Lina's Brazilian phase and in the primary sources constituted by texts written by architect herself, in Portuguese and Italian. The studies made it possible to observe Lina's intellectual maturity, a notion that was perceived from the transformations in the expressions of simplicity, so that it went from notably tangible expressions to mostly intangible ones, over the years, as Lina felt more and more linked to your country of choice.

This research aims to formulate a methodology to identify and abstract morphological patterns observed in specific references from nature for the aesthetics of artifact lines through parametric design and strategic design tools. It focuses on Morphological Analogy, considering mainly the morphological patterns of nature raised in the research as main parameters, and also considering several analyzes on the fundamentals, methodologies and projects of bioinspired design. Named Nature MorphoLogic Design, it has 8 main steps: (1) Research of the nature reference, (2) Identification of morphological patterns in the reference, (3) Definition of the Parametric Morphological Strategy (EMP), (4) Development of the EMP in parametric design software, (5) Definition of parameters in strategic design for the conception of the artifact line, (6) Generation of parametric alternatives, (7) Selection of alternatives of the products line and (8 ) Prototyping and final adjustments. To validate it, 3 experiments were carried out through Workshops in virtual platforms, with a group of specialists, using the sea urchin as a natural reference to develop lines of jewelry, furniture, lighting and tableware. At the end of the workshops, the participants evaluated the experiments through a questionnaire and the general public evaluated the developed products. The research revealed that both the participants evaluated the NMD methodology as effective and the general public was able to identify that the products developed in the workshops were based on sea urchins, proving that the methodology was able to abstract the morphology of nature to artifact lines.

This thesis reports the experience of emancipatory education carried out in the graphic design technology course at IFPE – Campus Recife over three editions of préocupe, a cycle of autonomous student workshops. In the Introduction, we characterized neoliberal education as predominant and presented contrary initiatives, national and international, including in design education. Then, as participant researcher reports, each of the three chapters records the development process of an edition of préocupe, which took place between December 2019 and May 2021. Thus, they follow the following structure: in the first section, we list elements of the context who informed each process; in the second, we present a theoretical foundation to analyze the experience; and, in the third, we articulate the reference to what we collectively develop through preoccupy. In Chapter one, we deal with the realization of the first preoccupy, which took place on December 13 and 14, 2019. Based on the philosophy of Jacques Rancière, we argue that students created a new sharing of the sensitive by transforming the stultifying theatricalization of the classroom setting. class in an emancipatory theatricalization. In Chapter two, we tell how an autonomous commission of students was formed to carry out the second pre-occupy, which took place on February 13 and 14, 2020. We defend that, through the organization of the event, they exercised their autonomy, as conceptualized by Paulo Freire . Therefore, this process started the construction of a pedagogical community and a collective subjectivity. In Chapter three, we report on the realization of the remote event during the Covid-19 pandemic and argue that there was an unspoken rule in the pedagogical space that “teachers teach and sudents learn”, to which students responded with another statement: “create an environment that people feel comfortable sharing experiences and learning things”. The formulation of this statement was the result of a political research process, as outlined by Sylvain Lazarus. Finally, in the Concluding remarks, we seek to articulate our experience with other theories about education that also prioritize an aesthetic approach. After exposing the powers and possible developments of our research, we characterize the contradiction of the teacher’s craft in search of emancipatory education: the need for permanent incompleteness and uncertainty.

Smartphones have rapidly become popular, reaching a significant part of the world population. The gesture, captured through the touchscreen technology, is characterized as the main form of interaction with this device, facilitating people's lives in different daily tasks, and, however, also negatively affecting the health of its adepts in different aspects, whether physical or psychological. Based on this finding, this research sought to apply practical and feasible procedures to identify ergonomic non-conformities that compromise the physical comfort and the musculoskeletal structures involved in this interaction. Thus, this research aims to develop a method to evaluate the physical ergonomics of the gestural interface of smartphones, through the planning of procedures and selection of techniques and tools that help to identify problems that these gestural interfaces can cause in the body of their users, and then propose appropriate solutions to reduce discomfort and biomechanical overloads. Thus, three studies were developed: (1) survey with Brazilian smartphone users to identify demographic characteristics, usage habits and the relationship with the perception of discomfort; (2) first experimentation, with 10 volunteers, to evaluate the original interface of the Instagram feed with three distinct ways of interaction (interfaces A, B and C); (3) second experimentation, with 12 volunteers, to compare the predominant way of using the original interface (interface A) and the interface redesign (interface X), with the application of ergonomic recommendations to reduce extreme movements (reachability) and the amount of repetitive movements (repetitiveness). The last two studies were experimental, carried out with real users, to validate the proposed method, collecting objective physiological data (joint angles, skin temperature and hand anthropometry) and subjective perceptive data (discomfort, effort and stress). The results of Study 1 indicate that there is an influence of gender, preexistence of musculoskeletal problems, and time of daily use on the perception of discomfort. Furthermore, Studies 2 and 3 confirm the hypothesis that improper positioning of interactive elements and repetitive gestural actions directly affect the perception of discomfort in the hands during use, and that these variables can be manipulated through the ergonomic design of the digital interface.

Academic teaching for the creation of visual identity systems (VISs) is offered on design courses at Brazilian public institutions of higher education, in disciplines related to graphic design. For this specific form of teaching, a preliminary review of the existing literature indicated that essentially project-based methods are used, which contain a systematic organization that provides guidance on how to work with projects but offers no didactic support. Thus, faced with the presupposed problem of there being no teaching methods that are able to provide support to teachers in guiding the development of VIS, this doctoral research began with the aim of reformulating a pre-existing experimental design model known as Fuxico (hand-made flowers from remnants of fabric), into a teaching method herein termed Roda de Fuxico (fuxico-making groups). In addition to project-based phases, the method also provides suggestions for teaching plans, lesson planning, reading materials, exercises and tools to assist in the evaluation of work, as well as suggestions for workshops and practical exercises. Throughout the investigation, the assumption regarding the inexistence of a specific Brazilian teaching method was confirmed, through sample results arising from a systematic literature review on methods developed by other researchers, in addition to interviews with design professors from public universities across the five Brazilian regions. The methodology for developing the Roda de Fuxico teaching method was structured into five stages: (1) Theory, obtaining a broader, defined position regarding the knowledge that involves the field; (2) Immersion, running an apprenticeship with the knowledge and practices of the handicraft creative community of fuxico and re-signifying the value of autochthonous references, to the detriment of foreign paradigms, for Brazilian design methodologies; (3) Conception, with the construction of the teaching method, influenced by the visited theory and by the coexistence in the rodas de fuxico; (4) Experimentation, when the method was experimented by teachers from the Federal Institute of Paraíba (IFPB); and (5) Presentation, when the Roda de Fuxico method was presented to eight specialist teachers in visual identity systems, from all regions of Brazil, seeking suggestions for improvement and validation. With an interruption in the doctorate studies due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a significant part of the study needed to be conducted remotely, thereby directly influencing data collection. Nevertheless, the immersion in the rodas de fuxico still took place, enabling a correspondence to be created between a process arising from local knowledge, the rodas de fuxico, and the teaching method in design. From this, it was perceived that a step had been taken toward the process of decolonizing design teaching, albeit a small move forward, given the awareness that decolonization in teaching is a deeper and more complex process. Moreover, in addition to being configured as a teaching method, the Roda de Fuxico presents techniques and tools that insert different participants into the creation processes, including those with divergent positions, based on the participatory design approach and the inclusive vision of the rodas de fuxico. These participants are named fuxiqueiros, namely: clients, designers undergoing formation and the various types of subjects for whom and with whom visual identities are developed. It is understood that there are different types of subjects who interact with visual identities, and not only those who use them. This proposal to expand the diversity of participants distances Roda de Fuxico from other design methods that suggest, as a priority, direct interaction between the project client and the responsible designer. Finally, the Roda de Fuxico method has become available, validated by teachers and specialists, for interested teachers, perceiving it as one that offers teaching support suggestions, which may be used either in full or in a modular form, and which presents characteristics of flexibility when adapting to the teachers' pre-existing teaching process and to their particular teaching-learning characteristics.

This thesis investigates the trajectory and graphic work of Heinrich Moser, a German artist who lived in Pernambuco at the beginning of the 20th century. H. Moser ́s contribution to the beginnings of Pernambuco design is evaluated, through the set of his graphic productions and professional activities from a broader perspective, considering his performance in the press, in periodicals, in the editorial set, in advertising, in the graphic industry in general and also as professor at the Pernambuco School of Fine Arts. The survey of H. Moser's life and of his work on what today is understood as graphic design was carried out in public and private collections, and also, through an intense investigation, in digitized newspapers of the time now available on line. For data analysis, this thesis took into account the historical and social context of the time and H. Moser's personal relationships. In addition, this thesis sought to evaluate some of his productions from the perspective of information design, based on the theories of Twyman (1979, 1982) and Ashwin (1979), thus making it possible to reflect on the graphic language and visual solutions adopted by the artist. The possible influence of the aesthetic movements of that historical period on his work was also taken into account. It was observed that the graphic solutions and different styles in their productions were related to the specific objective of each work and the theme requested by the client according to the target audience, thus evidencing practices of a design professional. As a professor, he had a significant influence on the construction of the curriculum at the Pernambuco School of Fine Arts (EBA). In the programs proposed by H. Moser, didactic exercises related to the graphic production of the time were found, evidencing the connection of this discipline with graphic design. This research identified that the various graphic productions of H. Moser, as well as his teaching at EBA, represent a significant contribution to the history of design and to the graphic memory of Pernambuco. In this way, it is possible to confirm and recognize H. Moser as one of the pioneers of Brazilian design.

This research focuses on conceptualizing and studying the “articulating professional user” and his process of creative technological appropriation, which consists of the process in which the subjects of the activity make suggestions for uses of technology that go beyond what is expected by others, including the developers themselves. When considered as users, professionals who deals directly with the public can take advantage of design artifacts to create, implement and evaluate activities with the end users of the technology, thus acting as an “articulating professional user”. This scenario in which a specialist professional creatively appropriates and redefines the use of a tool constitutes a rich field of information to be considered in the development processes of products for the Design area. As a theoretical framework, the constructs of the Historical-Cultural Activity Theory (LEONTIEV, 1981), the Model of Technology Appropriation (CARROLL, 2004) and the Activity System Tool Appropriation Model (WAYCOTT, 2005) were used. Adopting a qualitative approach, this research studied the creative technological appropriation processes of three Occupational Therapy professionals when working with a new game called “Te contei?” (“Did I tell you?”), implemented with 17 patients in a total of 32 applications. As a result, it was possible to map the activity systems of the articulating professional as a major influencer in the fortification of the technologies in use, leveraging resources through the process of resignification and influencing the very process of appropriation of the other subjects in the activity (the end users of the technology). When present in the activity systems, it was possible to point out that this character creates opportunities for delaying the tool expropriation process since it maps and uses the same artifact in different ways, in addition to actively adapting activities so that they are more appropriate for users, avoiding frustrations and abandonment of technology. In addition to the conceptualization of the articulating professional, among the main considerations of the study, the re-reading of the technological appropriation models is highlighted, combining the knowledge acquired in the theoretical foundation and the proposition of adaptation of the Model of Technology Appropriation by including the creative appropriation of the articulating professional.

The purpose of this research was to develop an agile methodology for interface design in digital games that considers accessibility as a design requirement based on Neves' (2019) Design Thinking Canvas methodology. The proposal for this adaptation is justified by considering the particular and contextual characteristics of the digital game as an artifact and interface, so that the design method considers its specificities, such as playfulness and motivation for use, as well as the absence of specific agile methodologies for the design of interfaces in digital games that consider accessibility as a design requirement. The hypothesis is that agility and the inclusion of accessibility requirements in interface design for digital games have a positive impact on the usability of the methodology. The adaptation was validated in a comparative experiment between the adapted methodology and an established interface design methodology for digital games in the literature, with two groups of 20 users each who will use the methodologies in a design project; the methodologies will be taught through free workshops. The users were designers and undergraduate students in Digital Games courses with intermediate experience in the area. Since there is no documentation for evaluating a methodology for interface design in the literature, usability indicators will be used to evaluate effectiveness, efficiency, user satisfaction, as well as qualitative aspects such as ease and organization, and the level of accessibility solutions proposed using each methodology. The research method adopted is mixed, aiming to collect qualitative and quantitative data, from a theoretical-pragmatic perspective. The comparison and triangulation between the results obtained in each group allowed us to ascertain that the proposed methodology is more agile and better evaluated by users, in addition to enhancing accessibility design.

The present research hypothesizes that the male body has been socially constructed and perceived as a fashion artifact. Similar to clothing, the body's muscles are shaped as a design object and socially traded as a commodity. To solidify the understanding of this potential commodification of the physical status of the male body, a historical narrative of recent fashion is traced, highlighting the macro-elements, political, economic, and social factors that facilitated this shift in fashion perspective. This study explores the realm of men's fashion design and its interactions with body construction, revealing the strategies adopted by a specific group of urban men to shape and transform their physical forms, as well as the complexities and symbolism involved in the pursuit of bodily (re)design since the 1960s. By utilizing photoethnographic tools applied to fashion thinking and constructing a historical- theoretical narrative, this study aims to explain how a certain group of men in urban environments develops established strategies among themselves to project and construct their bodies, as well as the symbolism present in their relationships and the dilemmas faced in the pursuit of this bodily (re)design. The argument put forth is that the male body, under cultural and consumer pressures, is elevated to the status of a fashion object, with clothing playing a fundamental role in framing this bodily project. The research field encompasses pool parties held in seven Brazilian states: Alagoas, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo, and the Federal District. Photoethnographic immersions were conducted to record behavior and routines through an aesthetic lens, with fashion optics serving as a reference for the production and editing of photographic material. As a result of this research, a photoethnographic essay is produced to present the gathered results, while engaging in a theoretical dialogue within the field. A theoretical panorama of men's fashion is constructed, connecting historical, social, and cultural events, key aesthetic movements, and political changes within men's fashion that have contributed to the development of a contemporary homoerotic vision. The study also examines how fashion has influenced its consumers and, throughout the 20th century, how it has been influenced by homoerotic aesthetics. Thus, the aim is to comprehend how the male body is influenced and contributes to the identity construction of concepts such as beauty, masculinity, and virility.

The characteristic and environmental transformations which humanity has been experiencing, have raised concerns about conditions of well-being and quality of life. Therefore, many theories have sought to explain the benefits of experiencing spaces which are created to help restore emotional balance, combat physical, emotional and psychological stress, and restore energy. In health care settings, it is particularly important to promote recovery since patients often experience stressful situations, and hospitalization can involve a range of feelings – fear, pain, the loss of a sense of time, spatial disorientation, loss of control over lives, amongst others. Therefore, the influence of the environment on human health, through the reduction of stress levels, is the structural basis of this study. It is centered on the potential benefits that restorative environments can promote in people. The key concept that guides the parameters of this research is called restorative environment, a term inherent to Environmental Psychology to describe the process which can occur when a place creates feelings which exert a positive influence on health. Based on the theoretical support of Environmental Psychology and Ergonomics of the Built Environment, exploratory research was carried out, identifying the physical attributes and meanings of haemodialysis wards which contribute to perceptions of security and attachment to these places, and which, hypothetically, would lead to recovery. It was possible to identify correlations between these physical attributes and the extent of the recovery. This research adopted a multi-method approach, combining direct and indirect observations, and qualitative and quantitative investigation. Initially, a bibliographic review was carried out on topics such as: recovery, stress and emotions, then a survey was carried out to characterize the physical attributes of haemodialysis wards and their meanings, and to investigate the perception of the extent of the recovery process. A total of 257 patients were treated at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE - and at two units of Clínicas DaVita, from August 2019 to February 2020. Content analysis was used for the treatment of the qualitative data, and the quantitative data were evaluated using relational descriptive statistics. The results confirm the hypothesis that both the quality of patient care, as well as the experiences of recovery in health care environments, occur in contexts with specific characteristics, and that attachment to the place and a feeling of security are predictors for establishing the basis for recovery. The characteristics and physical attributes highlighted in the research, and which play an important role in the construction of these meanings, are: the appearance of the residence; cool environments with mild temperatures; outdoor visual access; moderate amplitude; opportunities for privacy and social interaction; access to technologies; exposure to artistic expressions; support for companions' needs; accessible, ergonomic and inclusive environments; conservation and order of the medical establishment. In the view of the interviewees, haemodialysis environments are restorative when they are perceived as: familiar/safe; comfortable/organized; welcoming/relaxing and thought-provoking/interesting.

The design of fashion, in terms of both the design process and its practical implementation, demonstrates great difficulty in accommodating diverse bodies, especially when it comes to people with disabilities or mobility restrictions. It is a deficient scenario regarding the understanding and fulfillment of specific needs of this audience regarding the act of dressing, in addition to the propagation of body ideals that marginalize not only this group but also any other body that deviates from the reflexively reproduced standards. In this sense, one questions whether this lack of accessibility in the market is a reflection of a lack of preparation for designers in their professional training process. Therefore, this research is structured around the perspective of fashion design education as a potential means of training professionals qualified to work in a transitioning contemporary context towards a more inclusive practice. In this regard, concepts of disability and fashion design are explored at both macro and micro levels, aiming to outline a framework that supports the feasibility of a design and production scenario in fashion that aligns with the specific abilities and restrictions of this particular audience. The research methodology follows an inductive approach, utilizing literature review to establish conceptual references for the research, as well as analytical and comparative tools to examine fashion design approaches, and an analytical study of methodological processes in the fields of design, fashion design, and ergonomics. The objective is to structure a possible instrumental contribution focused on inclusive projects. The research aims to construct a conceptual model linked to the design process targeted specifically for this audience, with primarily didactic applicability.

The thesis, of a qualitative nature, aims to understand how the artifacts contribute to the process of re-signification of the body and reconstruction of the identity of women undergoing mastectomy due to breast cancer, against the backdrop of social representations about women, the breast and of the female body. We emphasize that breast cancer corresponds to almost 30% of cases of cancer diagnosed annually, with 99% of occurrence in females. It is the second most common type among women, being the one that kills the most, despite being curable in more than 90% of cases, when discovered early. Because it is a disease with a high incidence and a high lethality rate, we highlight the social nature of the topic addressed. The image of the female breast is strongly imbued with an emotional and symbolic charge that translates aspects such as motherhood, fertility, femininity and sexuality. The absence of such a representative part of the body, in addition to physical effects, can have psychological implications that directly influence people's lives with regard to their self-esteem and interaction with other individuals. When getting rid of the disease goes beyond the limits of drug treatments, requiring more aggressive medical procedures such as breast removal, the negative repercussions tend to be even greater. In addition to being physically painful, the mastectomy procedure is capable of awakening, in patients, insecurity about relationships, body shame and a feeling of non-recognition of self-image, making self-acceptance difficult and even leading to processes of depression. Beauty standards, on the other hand, which are generally stricter for the female public, further burden the emotional burden to which mastectomized women are exposed. In this scenario, we presume that, in an attempt to restore the shaken identity after the mastectomy, some women start the search to reframe their self-image. We assume that the artifacts, in their different configurations, can serve as a tool in this process of reframing the women's body image. Therefore, we intend to identify in the speeches and other subjective content, the role of artifacts and the influence of social representations about women, the breast and the female body in the different stages of coping with breast cancer. In the field study, we intend to use participatory tools such as participant observations, interviews and workshops. We hope, through the proposed experiments, to assimilate the main demands and desires of the studied group, identifying how the artifacts support them in the different stages of treatment. Understanding design as a social process that needs to correspond to the experiences, repertoire and perceptions of individuals, we believe that our reflections can serve as a contribution to future research, once strategies are identified for configuring artifacts with the potential to promote the empowerment of women in the field. concerning your body and your self-esteem.

This thesis takes account of different categories materialized in the printed object through the practice of book design. In chapter 1, we carried out a literature review to understand the production chain and circulation of books. For this, we present an overview of the areas of knowledge that take the book as object of study, then we discuss the models that present the productive chain of the book and, finally, we present the concepts of amplification, filter, model and framing, in order to articulate the configuration of the book with its complex production chain. In chapter 2, we propose the practice of book design based on probabilistic materiality. With this objective in mind, we carried out a critical literature review, with a disciplinary focus on book design, to support a critique of the traditional position of the discipline of book design—one that defends the neutrality of the graphic configuration. Finally, we defend the probabilistic materiality approach as opposed to mechanistic materiality as an approach to contemporary book design practice. In chapter 3, we discuss book design in Brazil from five perspectives. We interviewed five contemporary book designers to understand their practice and collect information on how the production chain currently works. Ee analyzed the transcription of the interviews conducted remotely and created conceptual labels to discuss the complex and contingent nature of this practice. Finally, in chapter 4, we describe the proposed diagram in which we consolidate our contribution. Thus, this chapter is focused on reporting and elaborating on the heterogeneous aspects discussed and listed in the previous chapters, demonstrating the various factors that intervene in the practice of book design. To demonstrate its application in concrete cases, we present a case analysis of the book Mala quadrada, Cabeça quadrada (2018). Therefore, this contribution suggests theoretical and project directions for book design in Brazil, based on the defense of a probabilistic approach to practice.

This research falls within the area of Ubiquitous User Interfaces (UUI), which is specifically related to propositions for Ubiquitous Computing. Due to the possibility of contributing to these two areas, this work intends to contribute directly to the field of Design, by proposing a model for the development of ubiquitous interfaces, considering the classroom environment as a field selected for the experiments. In this sense, in this thesis bibliographical reviews were carried out to define the theoretical foundations and its main methodological approach was action research, based on the role of designer-teacher, the result of a metadesign perspective as a structuring basis for the application of processes. The collection of data pertinent to the applications of action research was carried out in a time window of three consecutive years from 2020 to 2023, considering a total of six cycles applied and dealing with planning, implementation and collection of facts relevant to the development of the structure of the Ubiquitous Interface Design discipline in the bachelor's degree course in Design at a reference educational institution in the city of Recife-PE. Within the time frame, data were collected in three classes inserted in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and another three classes in the face-to-face context. As a result, it was possible to observe that factors such as collaboration between actors, awareness of interaction design knowledge, awareness of living spaces and recognition of potential for action, understanding of human beings' modalities and understanding of the nuances of interface categories, thinking focused to the process of physical and digital artifacts, define the development of ubiquitous interfaces.

The perspective of Problem Exploration (PE) in Design evaluated in the dynamics of developing innovative products in research projects at an Institute of Science and Technology (ICT) in Health comprises the object of this research, which is characterized as a case study with an approach qualitative. The first phase of the study considered bibliographical research applied in a systematic way to identify the main approaches that constitute the current perspective of PE in Design: the problem-solution co-evolution, the multidisciplinary approach and the use of systematized methods; interrelated to the innovation context. These theoretical dimensions, in categories of analysis, were applied to evaluate the dynamics involved in research projects in the second phase of the study, to identify possible potential factors for approaching the Design perspective in the environment. The results indicated the following favorable aspects present in the environment: the perception of the importance of problematization and the search for assertive solutions to users' needs, multidisciplinarity and collaboration as basic elements for project viability, in addition to integration as the main aspect for greater encouragement of innovation . In relation to the use of Design approaches, the nature of the project objective demonstrates an influence on susceptibility, with products related to health information resources showing greater potential. Finally, and observing the particularities between the theoretical dimensions of Design and the project environment of an ICT, guidelines were proposed for the research and development process of new products, in line with the principles of the Innovation process.

The purpose of this study is to provide reflections from the point of view of information design on this new scenario of transformation of co-design actions between designers and consumers in the clothing segment, in order to understand what messages are transmitted by clothing designed in a sustainable way by the upcycling process . This research is of a qualitative and exploratory nature, whose methodology involves an experiment: project ‘Peça Perdida? Abra seu guarda-roupa!'. As for the bibliographical research to build a theoretical framework, the approach includes the fields of design and anthropology, participatory design, information design and contexts of regeneration in the circular economy. The analysis of the results and the experimentation process carried out was anchored in a research of fashion artifacts developed by the upcycling process of fashion brands: (local) A Roda (Pernambuco); (national) Comas (São Paulo); and (international) Patagonia (California) in order to identify which information system these garments transmit in the communication process. In the end, differences were noticed in upcycling produced for marketing purposes and in upcycling carried out through co-design. And so, levels of variation in the upcycling process were identified: minimal upcycling, called 'affective weft', moderate upcycling, called 'controlled weft' and radical upcycling, called 'creative weft '.

Visual identity design projects have been frequent and longstanding in the history of design. The design practice of brand development can be found in the work of students and recent graduates, as well as in projects by renowned designers. What’s more, the relevance of visual identity design remains strong even with the constant changes in formats, media, and platforms where design is showcased. The field has well known bibliographical references that are widely used in classrooms and research. However, it is noticeable that technical topics are not explored in depth. It’s common to come across books that approach the subject from a broader, more project-oriented perspective, with less technical and tool-focused content. Furthermore, due to its comprehensive content, which encompasses various design topics (colors, typography, surface design, packaging design, etc.), visual identity design is often treated in a generalist manner in bibliographical productions. The author of this research identified this gap when teaching a course called Visual Methodology in the Bachelor of Design program at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. This course uses visual identity design as a practical driver for the exercise and learning of graphic design fundamentals. The course provides an overview of different graphic design topics that are related to the realm of visual identity design. When considered individually, these topics are exercised through activities presented in the form of boards. Each board represents a part of a larger design project, which ultimately results in a visual identity design project. This research aimed to establish technical guidelines for the development of visual identity design projects, by combining the guidelines found in the literature review with adjustments requested by the instructor during the experimentation and studies carried out in the course activities. The constructed guideline serves as a significant contribution to the learning of students, the teaching practice of instructors, and the multi-themed bibliographic record in the field of visual identity design.

Agreste Lenticular: Research and Creation in Artistic Supplies, relates experiments in lenticular images with the manifestations of female religiosity in the Agreste Meridional of Pernambuco, based on coexistence with women from the Trapiá community, located in the rural area of the city of Iati (PE). In the first part, the thesis investigates the history of the lenticular image, relating its illusionistic poetics to the iconography of sacred images; presents the main scientists who developed the technique and reflects on access to the processes that involve the raw material. In the second part, the research follows an artistic and ethnographic method, narrating in first person the sacred and profane manifestations of popular Catholicism in Trapiá, presenting the centenary novena of Saint Sebastian, its protagonists and its main participants, describing the prayers, blessed and songs and promoting a critical analysis regarding gender and the common life of rural women. Also in the second part, the thesis reveals the process of creating a series of lenticular images, incorporating the study of the composition of the works and the possibilities of printing using the technique.

The study is anchored in the changes in educational paradigms that occurred primarily after the COVID-2019 pandemic. Thus, it focuses on the evolution from traditional teaching, centered on the physical classroom setting, to a new approach to the learning environment through the integration of technological resources. Therefore, the main focus of this research is to propose ergonomic and design guidelines for the development and use of 3D learning environments in virtual reality for the metaverse, suitable for the educational context, with a focus on students' attention. Recognizing that in the relationship between the environment and learning, attention plays a fundamental role in knowledge construction. Given the proven connection between attention and learning and the built environment, this study aims to understand the relationship between the metaverse virtual teaching environment and student attention. To this end, the study is conducted using the Design Science Research methodology (Dresch et al., 2015), with the use of the user perception analysis phase of the Ergonomic Methodology for the Built Environment (MEAC) (Villarouco, 2009; 2011). In terms of technical procedures, the research is configured as experimental, participatory, and a case study. To ensure depth in the study, bibliographical, observational (photographs and videos), and interactional methods (interviews, forms, and questionnaires) were used for data collection. These methods were employed to gather qualitative data on users' perceptions of the teaching space. Additionally, Environmental Psychology tools such as Mind Mapping, as well as the analysis of students' focused, divided, and alternating attention (AOL-C, AOL D, and AOL-A), were used to collect quantitative data for the study. Thus, through a comparative analysis of 10 metaverses used for educational practices, FrameVR was selected for the experiment. Environmental factors related to Attention Restoration Theory (ART) by Kaplan and Kaplan (1982, 1989) were chosen. This theory explains that attention can be restored through stimuli from natural landscapes and was evaluated in the experiment. An experiment was conducted with a group of 36 students divided into groups of 6 individuals, with 2 having superior general attention capacity, 2 with average capacity, and 2 with lower capacity to make the sample more homogeneous, using the Frame VR metaverse platform. Students interacted with three types of environments: Environment A, a closed environment without windows; Environment B, a semi-open environment with windows and a view of landscapes; and Environment C, an open environment with a view of landscapes. In conclusion, it was observed that open or semi-open spaces are required for activities that require focused and/or divided attention, while closed spaces are recommended for educational activities that require students to focus on one stimulus or another. It was confirmed that the metaverse has great potential for promoting enjoyable and efficient teaching activities, with a focus on attention and consequently student learning.
